CRA Announces Extension for 2024 Charitable Donations Deadline to February 28, 2025

The Government of Canada has officially extended the deadline for making charitable donations eligible for tax support in the 2024 tax year to February 28, 2025. This change allows individuals and corporations more time to contribute while benefiting from tax deductions for the 2024 tax year.

At IMFoC, we welcome this update as it offers an excellent opportunity for our supporters to continue strengthening our Jewish community while maximizing their tax benefits.

What This Means for Donors

For Individuals:

  • Donations made between January 1 and February 28, 2025, can be claimed on your 2024 tax return.

  • If you prefer, you may carry forward these donations and claim them on your 2025 tax return instead.

For Corporations:

  • To apply for this extension, a corporation must have a taxation year that ended after November 14, 2024, and before January 1, 2025.

  • If this condition is met, charitable gifts made before March 1, 2025, can be deducted from the corporation's 2024 corporate income tax return.

Donations of public company stocks made between January 1 and February 28, 2025, will not be eligible for a 2024 tax receipt. They can only be claimed for the 2025 tax year.

How IMFoC is Supporting Donors

As part of our commitment to operational efficiency, IMFoC will continue issuing tax receipts immediately for any donations received during the extension period (January 1–February 28, 2025). This allows donors the flexibility to include these contributions in their 2024 tax filings if they choose.

This extension is a significant step in ensuring that donors have sufficient time to support the causes they care about. Your generous contributions help IMFoC continue our essential work in promoting health, emergency response, and well-being in Israel and beyond.

Make a Difference Today

Take advantage of this extended deadline and make your contribution count. Your donations not only provide critical support to IMFoC's initiatives but also offer potential tax benefits. Thank you for your continued generosity and commitment to strengthening our community.
