TORONTO, ON, September 26, 2024 — Israel Magen Fund of Canada — The Arbel Institute, supported by Canadian donors, is expanding its mental health program. After providing 700 groups for 1,400 students in Ashkelon, it will now train 100 more teachers to support over 2,000 children in conflict-affected areas. This initiative addresses childhood trauma and was made possible thanks to Canadian generosity.
In a remarkable step towards addressing the mental health challenges faced by children in Israel, the Arbel Institute is thrilled to announce the launch of another impactful initiative made possible by the generosity of Canadian donors through the Israel Magen Fund of Canada. This crucial collaboration aims to provide immediate interventions and mental health professionals to communities in need, mitigating the devastating effects of trauma on children and families affected by conflict.
Following the successful launch of the "Tzohar Program" in Ashkelon, which provided over 700 processing groups for more than 1,400 students, the Arbel Institute is set to extend its reach even further. The Tzohar Program has already shown tremendous success in helping children and educators cope with war experiences through structured emotional support groups. This new initiative will build on that momentum, expanding to additional communities and providing the same life-saving support to even more children.
With the invaluable support from Canadian donors, the Arbel Institute will now be able to implement similar programs in other conflict-affected areas. The new project will involve training an additional 100 teachers who will lead processing groups in schools, offering a safe space for children to share and process their experiences. Each teacher will be responsible for two groups of 10 students, ensuring that over 2,000 children will receive the crucial emotional and psychological support they need.
Childhood trauma, particularly in regions impacted by conflict, can have long-lasting effects on mental health and development. By equipping teachers with the skills and resources needed to lead these groups, the Arbel Institute is not just providing immediate support but is also building a sustainable model of care that empowers communities to heal from within. Each trained teacher becomes a beacon of hope and resilience for their students, helping them navigate their emotions and build coping mechanisms for the future.
The Role of Canadian Donors
This expansion is only possible thanks to the steadfast support of Canadian donors who believe in the mission of the Israel Magen Fund of Canada and the transformative work of the Arbel Institute. Their generous contributions have enabled the Institute to develop innovative trauma care models, purchase essential materials, and ensure the continued presence of mental health professionals in schools across the region.
While we celebrate the progress made, the journey is far from over. Thousands of children in Israel continue to face the challenges of trauma and uncertainty. The Arbel Institute remains committed to providing them with the support they need, but we cannot do it alone. We urge those who are able to join our mission and support these vital programs. Your donation can make a profound difference, helping us reach more children, train more teachers, and build a brighter, healthier future for communities across Israel.
